31 Reasons to Celebrate in July

As if summer break and vacations aren't good enough reasons to love July, we've rounded up 31 more excuses to celebrate the summer's hottest month. From Independence Day, to National Ice Cream Sundae Day, to World Emoji Day, there are so many reasons to get out, get smiling, and get partying this month!

July 1 - International Chicken Wing Day

It's no secret: Chicken wings bring a certain je ne sais quoi to game day, happy hours, sporting events and those nights you just have to resort to takeout. And by je ne sais quoi, we mean buttery, saucy, bleu cheesy (or ranchy! or both!) deliciousness that is impossible to eat without making a mess. But the mess is part of their charm!

July 2 - Made in the USA Day

Want to support American small businesses and your local economy? Shop local and shop American! Supporting companies with headquarters and productions in the good ol' US of A ensures work for American laborers and revenue for American businesses–and you can feel good knowing you're boosting your hometown's economy.

July 3 - National Eat Beans Day

Beans, beans they're good for your heart! Your favorite potty-themed rhyme from grade school actually has some truth to it: Beans are good for your heart! They're also good for your digestive tract, muscle development, and waistline, too. Toss a half-cup of kidney beans into your favorite salad, roast chick peas with olive oil and your favorite seasonings for a crunchy snack, or blend black beans into your go-to brownie mix for a healthier, fiber-filled brownie recipe (yes, really!).

July 4 - Independence Day

Happy birthday, America! Between the barbecues, ice cold beers, fireworks and bonfires, take a few moments today to reflect on the true meaning of Independence Day: Life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness!

July 5 - National Graham Cracker Day

Although they might not be the first cookies you reach for when your sweet tooth strikes, we have a lot to thank the humble graham cracker for–like s'mores, graham cracker pie crusts, cookies, and even banana pudding with graham cracker crumbles! Pressed into a pie crust or crumbled on top of ice cream, graham crackers can give so many desserts an extra dose of crunch and sweetness.

July 6 - Comic Sans Day

The number one font type for community flyers, kids' birthday party invitations and grade school handouts, Comic Sans has its very own holiday! Perhaps the most polarizing font type in history, there are plenty of ways to celebrate today. If you love Comic Sans, use it! If you hate Comic Sans, read up on the internet movement to ban it all together–yes, that's a real thing.

July 7 - Chocolate Day

Chocolate has an almost magical ability to remedy almost any situation. Feeling sad? Eat some chocolate. Feeling happy? Celebrate with chocolate! Feeling premenstrual symptoms? Curl up on the couch with a brownie or chocolate chip cookie. And here's some good news for chocolate lovers: Eating an ounce of dark chocolate each day actually has some health benefits, like reduced stress and blood pressure. How's that for an excuse?

July 8 - National Ice Cream Sundae Day

Nothing says "summer" like an ice cream sundae piled high with all the fixins! Whether you prefer a classic ice cream sundae with vanilla ice cream, a banana, whipped cream, and a cherry, or something a bit more adventurous, there's no wrong way to eat an ice cream sundae today.

July 9 - National Sugar Cookie Day

We love sugar cookies for their simplicity and versatility. You probably have all the ingredients in your pantry right now (flour, sugar, butter, eggs, vanilla, and baking soda is all you need!) and they only take a few minutes to whip up. But there are so many tasty ways to dress 'em up–like icing them with homemade frosting, making miniature ice cream sandwiches or making a sugar cookie crumble!

July 10 - National Pina Colada Day

If you can't transport yourself to the beach today, this classic, tropical cocktail can! Made with a few simple ingredients–including white rum, coconut cream and pineapple juice–nothing can make your back patio feel like a tropical escape like a pina colada can. Really want to create a tropical vibe? Break out the tiny paper umbrellas and kick off your shoes.

July 11 - National Mojito Day (& Free Slurpee Day!)

Say hola to your new favorite cocktail! Combining white rum with sugar, lime, mint, soda water, and sugar, this Cuban classic tastes light and refreshing–perfect for hot Havana (or your hometown) nights.

(Psst, mojitos aren't the only drinks in the limelight today. It's the summer day every kid waits for: Free Slurpee Day at 7-Eleven! Grab a free Slurpee at your local store and watch out for the brain freeze.)

July 12 - National Pecan Day

A classic, southern staple, pecans can be used in so many delicious ways–from pies, to pralines, to salads, to smoothies and even as a delicious crust for salmon!

July 13 - National French Fries Day

Even though potatoes can be prepared, like, two billion different ways, french fries just might be the most perfect iteration. Paired with some simple condiments like ketchup, mayo, or both(!), topped with truffle oil and parmesan, or mashed on top of a juicy burger, there's no wrong way to enjoy a big pile of fries today.

July 14 - Pandemonium Day

Between a hectic work schedule, chores, family time, and much-needed alone time, every day may feel like Pandemonium Day. But today, embrace it! Do something you normally wouldn't do: Stray from your regular schedule, wear jeans to work, let the dog on the bed, dig into your favorite junk food–whatever you need to let loose and embrace the pandemonium!

July 15 - I Love Horses Day

You're probably thinking, "But how will I celebrate 'I Love Horses Day' if I don't own a horse, don't have access to a local barn and can't go for a horseback ride?"

Our response: Just watch some videos of horses eating carrots; it's adorable and hilarious. You'll thank us later.

July 16 - National Fresh Spinach Day

Some good news: You don't have to down a massive pile of spinach to celebrate National Fresh Spinach Day! Try sauteeing spinach in olive oil with garlic, diced onions and your favorite spices, blend a handful into your breakfast smoothie or even mash it into hamburgers, turkey burgers, or meatballs for an extra serving of veggies!

Can't get your kids to eat their veggies? Try one of these kid-friendly recipes with spinach as the main ingredient.

July 17 - World Emoji Day

Thank you, emojis, for helping so many of us express how we feel without muttering a single word. From the beloved grimace emoji, to the controversial upside-down smiley emoji (what does it really mean?!), to the classic poop emoji, there are so many ways to emote–without actually emoting.

July 18 - National Hot Dog Day

It wouldn't be summertime without grilling burgers and hot dogs! Whether you prefer classic hot dog toppings, like ketchup and mustard, or more daring combinations–Frito Pie and BLT hot dogs, anyone?–nothing beats a delicious hot dog paired with an ice cold beer on a hot, summer afternoon.

July 19 - National Daiquiri Day

Need another beach getaway this month? Try a daiquiri! One of the six classic cocktails in David A. Embury's industry-defining book The Fine Art of Mixing Drinks, daiquiris combine rum, citrus juice and sugar (or another sweetener of your choice) to make a delicious and refreshing beverage.

July 20 - Nap Day

In our adult lives, there are so few opportunities to take a nap. And we mean a serious, drooling, lines-in-the-side-of-your-face, don't-know-what-year-it-is-when-you-wake-up kind of nap. Our advice? Hit the pillow and take full, unabashed advantage of nap day.

July 21 - National Junk Food Day

Today, it's basically your duty as an American to treat yourself. Skip the standard breakfast bar and dig into some homemade donuts; ditch your sad desk salad and nom on a slice of pizza or a decked-out grilled cheese; and swap your salmon with veggies for some hearty chili fries, deliciously decadent burgers or pasta piled high with cheese. National Junk Food Day only comes once a year, after all!

July 22 - Summer Leisure Day

Even if you can't take a nice, long vacation this summer, it's important to give yourself some TLC. Take a breather from the daily routine and go to the beach, lake or a local park for a picnic, hit the mall and splurge on the outfit you've been eyeing for weeks, or simply sleep in and have a lazy day on the couch. It's too hot to hustle every day in the summer, anyway!

July 23 - National Vanilla Ice Cream Day

Some people think vanilla ice cream is boring. To those people we say: What about vanilla ice cream scooped onto a hot brownie? Or vanilla ice cream blended into the perfect milkshake? Or vanilla ice cream topped with your favorite sundae fixins?

July 24 - National Tell an Old Joke Day

Today's the day you can finally unleash your beloved dad jokes without fear of people groaning and rolling their eyes. If you need a little material, we've got you covered:

Why don't crabs donate to charity? Because they're shellfish.

July 25 - National Wine and Cheese Day

Is there any combination that's better than wine and cheese? We don't think so! Grab your cutest charcuterie board and get arranging! Not sure where to begin? Check out these tips on putting together a seriously delicious spread.

July 26 - National Bagelfest Day

Crisp on the outside and chewy on the inside, there's nothing better than a fresh buttered bagel. Unless, of course, you top it with fresh cream cheese or smoked salmon, tomatoes and onions, or turn it into a stacked sandwich.

July 27 - National Scotch Day

Did you know the oldest recorded mention of scotch is from 1494? That means enjoying a nice glass of scotch today is actually an educational experience. In fact, that'd basically make you a historian!

July 28 - National Hamburger Day

There's nothing more satisfying than a hamburger with fries. Whether you opt for a classic hamburger, a burger wrapped in bacon (yes, really!) or a more creative blend of fixings, there's no wrong way to nom on a hamburger today.

Don't eat meat? Try one of these delicious meatless burger recipes!

July 29 - National Lasagna Day

Combining pasta, cheese, meat (or veggies!), and tomato sauce, lasagna just might be the perfect food. Looking for a lighter version of this dinnertime classic? Swap your pasta for zoodles and opt for reduced-fat mozzarella.

July 30 - Paperback Book Day

Books have the magical ability to transport us to faraway places and teach us things we never knew before–all while being pretty darn entertaining! Grab your favorite paperback, hit the beach, pool, lake, or even your back porch and enjoy!

July 31 - National Avocado Day

Served up as plain slices on a sandwich, mashed into flavorful guacamole or blended into dairy-free fudge, today, we're honoring this beloved fruit.
